Re: Coffee to age platic? : RESULTS! (Pics)

Lavaza coffee ( 100% arabica beans roasted in Italy ) is much better, not only does it do a quicker and better stain job but the aroma is also better.
As an added bonus Lavaza coffee adds extra midrange and bottom end punch to the tone of any guitar.
Incidentally, instant coffee ( any brand ) works just as well. as does Tea.
    ( 30 minutes is enough. )

OK, so the key is rouging up the parts first, right? I tried to age my bro's strat parts and had no success.

Also, will this method work of pickguards?
      Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

I have never scuffed up the parts, but key is the type of plastic. Fender OEM parts seem to work great, but I have seen different brands reject any kind of "stain".

You can tell by the look in Tim's eyes that his coffee held a secret--Vintage guitar parts!

Thanks man, I like the look.

As for a pickguard, it is hard to say. If you use an original fender pickguard, rough it up just enough, and let is soak in hot coffe, it probably would.

I found that the thing that helped most was keeping the mix in direct afternoon sun. Later that night, I tried another test knob in the same mix, but cold, and after 6 hours, the stain had barely taken. You really need a warm day to get it done.

Do you think the sun had something to do with it, UV rays?

                    Or just the heat?

I don't know, UV might of had something to do with it, but the fact that the coffee was warm for the whole process most likely made the biggest difference.

                          Heat is the key.

I dropped the parts in a cup of hot coffee sitting on the kitchen counter over night.

For sure. I think the reason mine took so little time is because of the constand heat.

There is also something to be said about the concentration of the coffee. You need to make it so dark that you can barely see the white plastic parts under about an inch of coffee.

That's the only kinda coffee I drink!

                              Comes to two strengths...

                              Normal and fuel.

                              Oh, and iced coffee!

Drinking one now... too hot for hot coffee...

hi there, has anyone tried relicing the plastic with shoe polish and wood stain? any success with that? better than the coffee idea?
