  • Looking for tab of a song...

25 or 6 to 4, by Chicago. Anyone have it? Thanks in advance.

(yeah, yeah, I'm revealing the fact that I am too lazy to sit down and figure the song out...but it really has a LOT of licks in it, and someone has to have done this work already).

Guitar, bass and drum tabs & chords with free online tab player. Play along with original audio. Huge selection of over a million tabs. No abusive ads. One accurate tab per song

I've never heard the song, but that's the most complete version of that tab on the mxtabs site. You could always try downloading the Powertab software and getting it from www.powertabs.net. Those tabs are usually pretty good too.

Terry Kath....one of the finest guitarists of the era & one of the saddest stories.

        Try these....they look pretty good:

Re: Looking for tab of a song...

Thanks for the help so far, guys. This is a good start. But the tabs thus far still haven't covered half of what is going on in this recording. It's interesting to me that many people have accused the band of writing about the drug culture, when in fact the song is about writing a song . Any more tabs?

Background: I got into Chicago after I took up trumpet in school. 25 or 6 to 4 was one of my favorite songs to play in band. I recently purchased The Very Best of Chicago (2-disk set), and rediscovered this song. Being a guitarist, I now notice things I didn't before. Kath played non-stop through this piece, and his licks are MONSTROUS. His tone was pretty much unprecedented at the time. Amazing.

Re: Looking for tab of a song...

Rumor is that the story is similar to the one posted above. The only variation is that Kath pointed the gun to his head after saying it was not loaded. Then he pulled the trigger. A pretty stupid thing to do, but still a tragic loss.

If you listen to this song, his licks are OBVIOUSLY horn influenced. Check out the phrasing and note choices--typical horn licks. Also, as hard as this is to believe after the "shredders" of the '80's, few people were using the speed licks he played in this song at that time. Especially in rock music. I never realized before now how GREAT his tone was.
