  • those little fretboard LEDs again

interesting concept. Not my cup of tea, but I remember a bunch of people asking about them a long time ago. If it works well enough it must beat tearing apart the neck!

WOO! Street Glow for guitar! I should get one... it would be useful in a dark playing area.

Hmmm... you think it would fit a tele? probably not because the battery pack is on the back on the strat head, whereas a tele has a thinner head.

Damn, those blue LEDs would look sweet on my agave blue tele

I looked into these too, but haven't ordered a set yet. It seems to be better than the others out there, which are either actual LEDs installed and cost a lot or some huge strip you put on the guitar and can clearly see.

thats the dumbest think i've seen in a long time

i had an idea once, to replace the 2 dot inlays on the 12th fret with 3 LED's, and make it into a tuner, run the wires down the truss rod cavity, and yeah

that seems like a way better idea

The one guitar I have with a 25.5" scale cost less that the LED unit.

You´ve obviously never played on a stage with next to no lighting, much less had a gig where the lighting went out

I´ll probably try them out before X-Mas, just to see how well they perform. I still prefer LEDs embedded into the fretboard, but as has been stated this is VERY costly, even if you´re a Luthier and do it yourself

About embedding the LED's in the fretboard...

Zerb gave me a link to a website in German to buy LED'S but I basically couldn't figure out what was appropriate or not to the task! Which LED's would I have to buy?

Also, is it possible to have them in custom shapes, or do they only come in circles? It would be amazing if you could get an LED blank or something, and then carve out shapes that would light up! Is this possible or simply imagination? Sounds too good to be true.

                        Sorry this is kinda off-topic.

Actually there was a company that made tuners that were built into the pickup rings of LP's and the pickguards of strats. Pretty much invisible unless you saw the mini-switch and looked at it from the player's POV. I believe they were called Optronix Profile tuners. I have never been able to find one for sale though... the company mustve tanked. Here's a pic.

Actually as for the dark-fretboard idea that IS a little bright... one of my friends actually paints the white dots with glo-in-the-dark nail polish but he has to leave the instrument in the sun before a gig to get it to work.

It's a cool idea, I guess, but thats so horribly 80s looking.
