So ive been looking at these new Atomic tube amps for the POD, and i am seriously considering one. My only concern is whether or not 18 watts is going to be enough for live use (mainly small venues). So does anyone have any experience using one of these for band practices and/or live use? It sounds like this would do fine with a PA (which my band is days away from finally having), but could i play with one of these live without the assistance of a PA? thanks for your help.

    Re: atomic amps

depends on how many other instruments it wil competing with and what kind of music

18 tube watts is hella loud and if you are gonna mic it, it's probably perfect for a small place with moderate volume drums and bass (no other instruments) ... but if you have to fill a room competing with real loud drums, bass and another guitarist and no PA to mic it through, i'd guess no, not loud enough

    good luck

I have 2 of these I run in stereo. Plenty loud! I run it on 4 to 4 1/2 on the POD output level, compared to my Vetta which I'd run at 2-3 into a 2x12 cab. No problem being heard one bit. Besides you shouldn't be that loud on stage, unless your playing some big venue. For most average clubs these are more than adequate.

cool, im glad to hear that. in my band i have drums, another guitarist, vocals, bass and keyboard, so im going to have some competition. But like i said, the band is on the verge of having a really loud PA, so i think with the atomic, and the PA i should be ok. thanks guys. any other input would be greatly appreciated still.

one more question... does the atomic come with the mounting case and all the cords that are shown in the pictures on american musical supply, or do i need to buy that stuff seperate?

              Re: atomic amps

The mounting system comes with it. Includes all the wiring needed to connect it up. I've heard of a few guys getting them without it, but that have been somethign the dealer did by accident. Make sure that when you order it you tell them which template you need to go with it... POdxt, POD 2, Tonelab, etc.

Actually just checked the AMS site..It shows it but is not clear. zZounds includes it and it's the same price. I think AMS is the one someone had an issue with, but it did get fixed up.

                Here's their link... http://www.zzounds.com/a--3926/item--ATOR112

                  Re: atomic amps

Clint; I don't know this for certain, but I imagine that the Atomic amp is just a tube power amp and a cabinet, with a slot cut for a Pod. You could probably do the same thing for any modeller just by getting a nice tube power amp, al la Mesa 20/20, and adding your favorite cabinet.

The Atomic is nice, but I wouldn't feel locked into that specific brand to accomplish that function.

                    Re: atomic amps

The difference Artie is that Harry Kolbe is one of the more respected amp guys in the country and thisamp was designed specifically for modellers. Having tried dozens of setups, in my mind the Atomic does it better than anyone else for this power range. If you really need more power, then I'd suggest a PODPro with a VHT 2/90/2 into a 4x12.
