  • What am I doing wrong ?

Guys, when I re string my silhouette special with it's Schaller locking tuners, i seem to damage the wound strings on a regular basis.. what am I doing wrong ??

I pull the string thru, tighten the thumb wheel and tune to pitch.
Often when I start to stretch the string ( by fretting at the 1st fret and simultaneously pulling gently at the 12th with the other hand as advised by Schaller ) the string slips.

I tighten the thumb wheel a bit more but when i stretch the string, the wind unravels, ruining the string !

    I can't find a happy medium.... HELP

Re: What am I doing wrong ?

are you getting a full round and a half on the tuner?
or just snugging it up and cranking to pitch?

    EDIT
snugging is a German technical term, really

        +1
Some tuners need only a half rotation on them, just enough so the locking system isn't the only thing holding the string tight.
