strat build!! nearly done

im in the process of putting together a strat here is what i've done so far...




i bought this alder body off ebay. it was in pretty bad shape a lot worse then it looks in the pic. it looked like the previous owner tried to relic it with a razer blade and rocks.

first i stripped all the paint off with a heat gun. there was a crack in the back that i thought was just in the paint but when i stripped it down it turned out it was in the wood so i filled it in and smoothed it out.

i then painted a few coats of primer on ready for the new colour... aged white...

i've wet sanded the whole thing but havn't buffed it to a high gloss yet.
i might just leave it matte.

here is how it looks now



i had an old lefty mighty mite neck that i clear coated in a satin poly
i also painted the head stock to match...




i had to shave away some of the body to make the neck fit. also i think i might have to make the pocket deeper what do you guys think?





lol i had to paint on marker dots as it was a left handed neck!

i still need all the hardware etc will update once its finished!

I'd leave the neck pocket as it is, leave room for the pickguard to fit underneath.

ye but theres room for about 3 pickguards underneath lol its higher then it looks in the pics.

its up to you man, if it bothers you then do something about it, if not leave it. I don't think it's a major issue.

Looking good, man, I can't wait to see it finished.

If it was me, I'd probably want to deepen the pocket just a little because little things like that just seem to keep bothering me. Though I'd wait until I had the bridge so I could make sure I wasn't messing with how the strings line up or something. I guess if you go too deep you could always use a shim, anyway.

What kind of electronics you throwing in there? You going for a bazillion wiring options or just keeping it simple?

thanks guys, i'll leave the neck for now, see what its like with the bridge and stuff on.
for the electrics i havn't really decided yet. i have been thinking about all the posiable combos for pickups and stuff but will probably just keep it simple, 3 singles, most likely ssl1 mid and neck, ssl5 bridge

lol i like the neck pickup too much! might end up with a humbucker in the bridge at some point though
