I just meant obsession in the sense that once you build one.....you can't stop. Ever. Ever. It's worse than crack, assembling/modding/building guitars! Haha!

        Gotcha.

That reminds me, I've got to go put another coat on the one I'm doing today.

Keep in mind that I wasn't trying to pass of the signature as HIS signature, but just the fake signature that is on his "signature" guitar.

Anyway... I expect to order the rest of the components tonight so hopefully I can start the work this week!

Re: Dave Murray Strat Build Thread

I was just trying to emulate the guitar, and not pass off the signature as ACTUALLY Dave's signature. (ie, that he HAD SIGNED that guitar)

The other mentions above are kinda inferring that someone is trying to pass of the "fake" signature as the real thing, even if only for looks (ie, Babe Ruth's signature on a baseball as actually signed by the Babe himself).

The Dave Murray strat has a replcia of his signature on the back of the headstock - so do Eric Clapton's Blackie strat and the Jimmie Vaughan strats. The guitar wasn't actually SIGNED by the artist. Since I am replicating the guitar I was thinking of replicating the signature, but I was in nbo way going to pass it off that Dave actually signed the guitar. It really had nothing to do with the signature itself, other than it happened to be on the guitar.

But, whatever - the real issue is that you think baseball is a lame sport! How dare you!?

                  Baseball sucks balls.
If you want to know where I got my Dave sig, PM me. It doesn't look as good as the one on Grandturk's, but it costs a lot less.

I really thought we had something, me and you... and you go and throw it away like yesterday's trash...

Let me guess, you like "soccer", eh? Uggg!

I'll think about the signature. Thanks!

Re: Dave Murray Strat Build Thread

Plans have changed slightly. I found a near mint MIM strat with a 50's logo already applied. So... I will likely use that as the basis for the Murray.

With that said, I think I will use the Squier to build a poor man's Gilmour to sell. I'll post those pictures as well.

Good to hear you found a nice MIM.

On the Squier thing, I did exactly that with one - turned it into a poor man's Gilmour, and when I came to sell it all I did was break even given the money I'd spent on new pickguard, tuners and an SSL-6.
You may be better just selling it as it is, save some hassle.

The beauty is that I have a bunch of pickups and electronics that are free, so converting it shouldn't be too big of a cost issue. Even if I break even it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Is that Ian Anderson as your avatar?

Saw "Ian Anderson plays Acoustic Tull" this past year here in Connecticut. He played his little teeny parlor acoustic. Pretty good show.

                                But, yes, back on topic.

Should have most of my material this weekend and will post pics as soon as I have progress!
