  • Found my tone (for now)

    Telecaster -> Compressor -> Tubescreamer -> DeVille 212

There it is, an all around great guitar tone.

I will try and record it tonight before any of the knobs get moved, haha.

    Sounds great.

Click it up to 720p - the audio is better.
    I recorded it in HD.

      yeah it helps to simplify.

Give me something like a Les Paul or a Strat or something with some kind of pedal i can use to boost or dirty up my cranked tube amp.

I mentioned in another thread about a month ago that "when a player stops looking for easy ways out is when he truly learns to play," or something like that, and I decided to take my own advice and stop switching guitars so much and just pick one.

I picked my SX STL50 because it plays really well, but also because it's got a warm and full neck tone paired with a sharp and mean bridge tone. And of course a few tricks in between.

Then I looked at all my gat-dang pedals, and thought, what do I really want to hear? And the answer was "not much of anything." I don't want to hear delay and reverb and such on a guitar tone. I want to hear guitar. The compressor is a kind of necessary evil, with these pickups, and the Tubescreamer is for giving me a little leg up on the relentlessly clean clean channel of my Fender.

I will try and capture it for you guys - my wife and I got a new HD video camera, so I am going to try and record a clip for YouTube in 1080p just to see it. Knowing my DSL internet, it should be up by some time in 2011

Take the compressor out of the rig and you have one of my favorite tones. (you'd need to add an old Fender amp though.)
I get weak in the knees at the sight of a vintage Fender amp!

I have tried to take it out, but I always get that feeling like "AWWW man, it just sounded better with the compressor on" so I go with what my ears tell me.

The compressor adds a fatness to it that it needs.

I can't figure out the EQ of the DeVille - I have heard it's got an interactive tone stack, which is confusing enough in and of itself, and of course the bright switch as well, which is always off (the Telecaster is bright enough on its own).

I will post clips when I can!

lmao! that's almost what i use too

AM STD tele -> fuzz clone -> mxr delay -> fender champ II

its maybe a weird sound, but it sings, so its very musical

I like that you had the good sense to put "for now".

Simple is good. I run my Tele's through a BD-2 and into either my Blues Jr or my L'il Dawg (Fender 5F1 cicuit).

Sounds pretty good. What mic are you using?

Thanks - just the video camera mic --- Kodak PlaySport. It has a mic sensitivity adjustment, that I had all the way down, but the amp still overdrove the mic a little bit.

To my surprise, it made the drive channel sound decent on that amp!

That big mic in front of the DeVille is a Blue Snowball.
