  • Firebird bass

First, Im a moron.. I meant THUNDERBIRD bass..

I have a question. I only dabble with bass and really havnt got to the point where I can tell what features (woods, pups, etc) do what like I can with a guitar. However, I have noticed that a couple of the bassists I like play firebirds. they definately have the look, but are they especially good rock basses too? Does the Epi rate about the same in the bass realm as they do in guitars?? Im really drawn to bass. Always have been and with my hearing loss, I hear bass frequencies better, so perhaps I could learn easier. Ive been digging the bassist for Kings of leon lately.

Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

My bass player loves his Epi T-Bird, no issues with it at all.

I have a Gibson Thunderbird and I love it, I do own a Epiphone Rivoli bass and it plays great. I do know they make Epi Thunderbirds with neck thru but most are bolt on. And I don't know enough about them.

what "bassists" are you listening to that play on normal six-string guitars with minihumbuckers?

those neckthru thunderbirds Epiphone's doing right now are insanely awesome.

My bassist has the bolt-on version. It set up really well and sounds great. The new Epi neck thru is pretty nice but @ $600 mmm I save a few more bucks and go Gibson. Used they are available under a grand.

A gorgeous alternative to the Gibson is the Lull T4. It is a bolt neck but done very nicely. I like the bolt on since you usually have ridiculous action on the set necks as they age. Lull also used original style T-bird pups. Tom Petersson from Cheap Trick uses them nowadays, cool.

Yeah thats how I figured it too, My Gibson's a sunburst now but would like a white one. It plays great, you can get up and down the neck with ease.

I know a couple of Epi t-bird owners and they seems to like get on with em fine.
But they are big beasties and headstock heavy and will nose dive in an instant if ya not careful.
