Before you go out and buy new springs, keep in mind that (for the same string tension) fewer strings on a longer path are no the same as more strings on a shorter path. If you play with this you get the same effect as if you would go out and buy strings of different stiffness.
In any case, Callaham offers you springs and claws and things pretty cheap. I found it worth getting a bunch of that stuff and use it on any other random trems. It's not so much better but it is consistent, so you put it in and you can work with it.
