  • A little help from my friends.

I would like to thank the generosity of a few members for their help with my most recent project. 9finger for sending me the pickguard, ErikH for the bridge and Jerry for the middle pickup.

The body is a basswood Ibanez, the neck is from my Japanese 1989 strat. The pickups are a Dimarzio Super Distortion, Jackson hum-cancelling and a Dimarzio Super II.

I might add a 1meg volume for the neck/bridge and let the middle have its own volume. I might also buy some black bobbin toppers, rather than the sloppy sharpie color job.

It's nice of you to thank them in public. When you do something nice for someone, you certainly don't do it in expectations of anything (if you have the right motives) but I gotta tell you, it chaps my ass to do something nice for someone and not even get a private thank you or even an acknowledgement. Good on ya!

I didn't know that a regular 22 fret strat neck would work on an Ibby though,

Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

I was able to take the tremolo from the Ibanez and put it on Edvard Van Holstein. The intonation and action are now nearly perfect.

The body is from a student model GRX40. The neck on these models does not have the overhang like the higher end models, so strat necks fit fine. The two bolt holes nearest the heel lined up with the body, but I had to dowel and redrill the other two. I also cut the pickguard from H/H to H/S/H with a dremel. The neck has the classic strat profile and small frets, so it is pretty much a fretless wonder and could stand a refrett, but I'm not that ambitious.

Don't buy a body unless it is a Fender compatible, because it is a pain in the ass to find a replacement pickguard.
