  • Upon taking apart my LP Classic...

    Just swapping pickups (putting in 500t/496r to bring it back to stock) and I noticed how HUGE the maple cap was! Wow! I didn't think to take a picture of it, but I measured a 1" piece of maple on the top of my Classic. This is my first Gibson Les Paul, and therefore I'd never opened one up before so I was shocked.

    Yes, you hear the marketing copy that they have a 1" cap, but all of my experience has been with less-expensive versions, all of which had almost no cap. Even my Carvin only has 1/2" or so... Anyway, I was very impressed. I'll try to get a picture up.

    Oh, and the chambering was clearly evident through the pickup cavities.
