  • Anybody else fiddle with string height all the time?

I can't settle on a compromise, it seems.

My poor Ibanez keeps getting it's settings changed all the time.
I go from high action to medium action to low action, rinse and repeat.

Low action is easier to play, but the guitar sustains better and sounds with more girth and clarity with the strings set higher.

And since this is my only all-around guitar... well, I never settle on that.
My Squier can only do 80's Rock/Metal properly and it's got the strings real low, (JB + Strat = win)
and the AllParts it's for vintage sounds, and it's got the strings real high.

Maybe I just need more guitars?

Yeah, used to in the past during an experimentation phase. But I finally settled on 04/64" low E & 3.5/64" high E measured open at the 12 fret. With relief .005" to .010". That works for most guitars. Once I set them I don't touch the action. If something is off, then I know the neck has moved and once I re-adjust the truss rod back to the original amount of relief everything else falls back in place.
