  • Ebony staining a body?

    Anybody have experience with it?
What I really want to know is, can I thin it to make it a little lighter.
It's going on a real tight grained, ash, Tele body. I'd like to get to a more smoke color than a dark black.
I think I'm gonna finish it in Tru-oil, something like 10-12 coats.
I've just never messed with this stain before.

I've read somewhere you could use clothes dye for a thinner smoke like finish.

I just read an article on that, thanks! I'm gonna try it on a scrap piece of poplar I have to see what it looks like, and try it with the Tru-oil just to see what it looks like.

Sounds like a good idea. Let us know if it works out.

I have never heard that before, but will keep it in mind, for my custom D/C LP/JR being built, thanks
