  • Cigar Box Guitar

This was a fun to make. $5 for a cigar box, $2 for the poplar stick, all the rest of the parts I had laying around, and a high output humbucker so it screams. I was never any good at slide guitar, but this is pretty fun.

Now all you need to do is get "the look" down and set out front of the local pay 'n pump and pluck away.

          Looks pretty cool.

Acoustically kinda banjo like. Plugged in on a clean tone with some reverb and tremolo is perfect blues tone. If I crank the gain up, I feel like breaking into Bad Motor Scooter.

Dimarzio Evolution. Had it laying around and it sits lower than the single coil I was going to use. I would have had to cut too much out of the stick going through the body to make that fit and the tension of the strings would have snapped it in two.

How do you have it tuned? Like a four string tenor guitar?

You should make a mandolin next

That's awesome! Jackson style neck on a cigar box guitar is too cool. What's the hollowbody next to it? Teisco or Norma? I've been wanting to pick one of those up. How's it sound?

I switch between D-A-D-A and D-A-D-F#. I've never played much with open tunings or slide guitar, so it's all kinda new to me. Seeing my 3 year old son enjoy trying to play slide on it is even more of a treat.

Mandolin??? Actually, I'm getting really wierd and crazy with my next attempt. Stay tuned...
