      My guess would be basswood, as it has already been mentioned several times. Check out Ibanez guitars, they have some midrange/high-end models with basswood bodies (bolt-on maple necks, usually, if you go for the RG series superstrats).

      What I like the most on these guitars is that you REALLY hear the differences in tone when switching between the pickups, not like my EMG-equipped guitar that sounds the same all the time. With Ibanez guitars, you have a neck sound that is very clear for cleans, bassy for rhythms, muddy for solos, and the bridge pickup goes full crisp. As it should be, you'll say, but I've often heard guitars where the difference was crappy.
