  • Maple or mahog neck with H-s-s mahog/maple cap body?

Which neck wood would you choose for a mahogany body with a maple cap?

Pickups will be H-s-s... Either duncans or Bill Lawrence.

    depends
i'm doing a similar thing for pureoldsound right now
he's getting a maple set neck
the maple will give youa bit more snap
the mahogany would smooth things out
witthe 2 singles' i might be inclined to say maple
but it also dependso nhow thick htemaple top is

What I had done with my Grosh was a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard... best of both worlds IMHO.

It would be a bolt on seeing as usa custom guitars do only bolt on necks

and can i assume that is a thin maple top ala a tele thinline or is it a carved top
i like to use maple sparingly

Its a carved top but in a strat shape. The top is probably minimum 5/8 "

USACG carved tops are 5/8" IIRC. It's a fair amount of maple on a Tele-shaped body, especially around the neck pocket.

I'd suggest that you talk to Tommy at USACG, tell him what tone you're going for, your musical tastes, your rig, etc. He'll know better than anyone else how different body/neck/fingerboard wood combinations will turn out, and he's a great guy to talk with.

If you're going for a sorta-Strat tone, my guess would be a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. On the other hand, a mahogany neck with an ebony (snappy) or Pao Ferro (in between) fingerboard might give you more of a PRS/Brian Moore type tone.

              Have fun with your project

I would get maple so you doesnīt have to use a thick finish on the neck, just oil it.
But thatīs just baecause i hate laquered necks...
If you donīt mind the finish, the mahogany will sound a bit warmer if thats what you want.
