They called it a Tele bass because of the slab body. Whe Fender never did a single cut tele bodied bass is beyond me too. G&L did as FF said and they Rock, Fernandes did one as well with a slighty larger body. I really like them but they are somewhat hard to find, they weren't all that popular.
Kicking around on the TalkBass site I found a cool wiring mod for the bass that I am going to try. Since it is a 4 wire pickup guys have been wiring it up for switching between series/parallel/single coil, gives it more options besides just HUGE bottom end pretty easily.
