  • Keep some quality cables around guys...

    Couldn't figure out why my guitars were sounding so dull and crunchless.
    No shimmer, no highs. Thought it could be an electricity thing.
    It was just a cable gone bad in the middle of the pedal chain. Now the clarity is back.

    Just a reminder.

    No idea. It's a spare 10 foot cable (yeah, not really fit for a pedalboard but it's just a quick rig between gigs) and it's the oldest cable I have around.
    Plus it's really thin.
    I can't really trust it, so it's going out.

      From today's experience, I'd say it is.

      I was thinking "Man, I've got a Screamin' Demon in the bridge here. It's not meant to be muddy at all, what the hell?".

      Curiously it wasn't as noticeable with other guitars with hotter pickups.
      Maybe because the Demon's resonance peak is in a higher frequency than the JB? So it got rolled off with the faulty cable more noticeably.

      Whatever. It sounds terrific now.
