Re: So, Light Strings and Hollow Les Pauls Give No Tone Eh?

I went down from 10-52 to 9-42. Lovin' it.
Nothing gets in the way of my uninteresting chops now.

It does sound very different than before.
You have to compensate heavily on the EQ and you better have a good amp and guitar to begin with. I'm still lacking some flavor from the heavier strings, I don't have much to tweak with. But it's not bad.

Never understood why the weight relief holes were such a big deal. Lighter body, more resonant etc. How is that a bad thing?

Weight relief is fine....as long as the piece of wood is alright to start with.

Taking a 15 pound chunk of crappy mahogany then filling it full of holes until it's 7 pounds won't make it make a good sounding guitar.

Oh God I couldn't stop laughing when he said that. I bet working for the Rev. is a trip.

            You know it is!

I wasn't surprised that Elwood says he takes empty cases on tour to bring home the new buys!

              Billy Gibbons uses 7's...very cool

I have always said that you can get a big fat tone with a small string.

A point that many seem to overlook....if you have a light pick attack you will be able to introduce more energy into a small string than a large one.
              Gravity...its just a theory

Yeah. You pick a string hard and they react harshly, they scream.
Pick them lighter, and they roar and purr. Like a Harley.
Add some high string action and gear to compensate for the lighter strings, and you've got yourself some good tone.

You don't take empty guitars cases with you when you leave the house? Man I make 'em look heavy too, that ways there are no sideways looks when I come home with a guitar case
