  • Carvin Contour 66 and CT624??? Anyone own one or tried one out??

I know the C66 and CT624 are two very different models, but I am interested in both.

I really want a mahogany body/maple top guitar with maple neck and fretboard with stainless steel frets. I've contacted some custom builders and their prices have been pretty high for this and Carvin seems to offer it at a decent cost with a lot of options still. I have priced out a C66 model at about 1.5k and CT624 model at about 1.9k.

Has anyone here tried either of these models or owns one?

    How is Carvins fretwork?

The CT624 with the mentioned woods is something inspired by the PRS Hiland model I once played, it was amazing and articulate as hell, but is no longer in production.

What you all think of these models?

How are they on their return policy? That's the other benefit here too.

the fretwork is great! They make great guitars! Most of the people that dont like them, are expecting a Fender or LP with a diff name on the headstock. Carvins are Carvins and they make great guitars. Id LOVE to have a C66!
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

yeah, the C66 I speced out is the following:

mahogany body with quilt maple top
      vintage yellow quilt finish
      blackburst sides
      black sides and back
5 piece maple neck with 2 coa stripes
flame maple fretboard with SS jumbo frets
quilt overlay in matching color of body
      ivroid graphtech nut
      chrome hardware
      wilkinson tremolo
      upgraded buttons
      phase switch
      HSH

I think I'll swap the pickups out pretty quickly... I have not really dug too many of the clips. I may throw in a set of Suhr pickups or Dimarzios.

it was going to cost about $1,500.... that isn't a bad price at all for those features!

who knows if I will actually like it though....

Carvin fretwork is some of the best in the industry.
