    I'm so in on this.

    Here's my 83-84 era Focus 2000 (MIJ) that my wife got me last year for Valentine's Day. SWEET guitar. She got it for a song. These babies are cheap and SOLID!

    The pickups in it now are a DiMarzio Norton in the bridge and an original design DiMarzio PAF in the neck.

          Gonna be REAL hard to beat a Gibson for $200....

          Eric, Great axe and GREAT wife!! yeah, i had a focus 6000 that I got with HSC for $167. Was awesome.. Hate myself for selling it..
          Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

              True, big difference I think. If the latter I'll pull mine.

                Wasn't asking for you to do that at all. I want to know so I can decide what to enter.

                  Damn! ...I just noticed the $400 price cap. That means the two at the bottom of my post don't qualify (by a whisker)...

                  ....unless you raise it to $500 Aceman (Still cheap as hell)

                    Re: Ultimate SDUG BUDGET axe Prelims !!!!!!!

                    Point of Clarification:

                    The spirit of this is BUDGET. we are talking CHEAP guitars. Not expensive guitars scored cheaply. The Cort, for example, is right on target. A Gibson R9 that you bought from a cracked out rock star for 3 bills is NOT in the spirit of this.

                    If it is a formerly expensive model, and you spent 500 fixing it - it's gonna fail. Think Epiphone, Squire, Cort, Ltd, etc...Or some pawn shop prize. A 57 Strat from a pawn shop, while a prize, is not what this is about!

                        Re: Ultimate SDUG BUDGET axe Prelims !!!!!!!

                        Just sold this one today, but it deserves a little light. Epiphone SG special, bought from a local trader store for $7 like this;

                        Swapped the tail piece and tune-o-matic for about $30 something and had an extra set of inline black tuners that came with the Charvel 275 deluxe I have.

                        Now for my official entry;
                        A Westone unknown model that I got off of Craigslist for $60;

                        Repainted the body, swapped the EMG select with a Duncan Distortion(J), added a momentary kill switch, and found the needed locknut parts via Wammi World. The paint, switch, and parts totaled to about $30 something, so I was able to keep it under $100!

                          That's awesome! ^

                          I love that you kept that skull on the neck plate to keep some of that original vibe.

                          Very cool.

                              What about parts guitars that come within the budget in total cost?
