New G&L day! I just got an '84 G&L, HG-2. The body is maple and is paired with a maple neck. That translates into extremely bright! My Peavey, Delta Blues 1x15" amp does a decent job of taming the brightness. The HG-2 is one of the rarer G&L guitars offered during the 80's.

    Nice! Congrats!

How does that differ from the early F-100's (like the one below on eBay)?

The HG-2 has mini humbuckers and a smaller overall body size. The HG-2 was part of G&L's student line. It was the humbucker equipped student guitar. The F-100 has full size humbucking pickups along with a full size body. F-100's have coil tap and phase switches. The HG-2 has a three way switch only. The F-100 hard-tail is the only G&L hard-tail model made with a string through the body design. The HG-2 has the same saddle lock bridge that is used still to this day on all G&L hard-tail guitars. Even though the HG-2 was a student model it had the same bridge, tuners, micro-tilt neck & build quality as the upscale models.

Holy hell, that is the most awesome guitar I have ever seen.

Something about it grabs me by the leg hair and pulls me in
