  • From Gibson’s web pages...

    Model
The SG Special Raw Power sports a pair of uncovered ’57 Classic pickups. Inspired by those original PAFs, the ’57 Classic pickups are made to the exact same specs, including Alnico II magnets, nickel-plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers, and vintage-style, two-conductor braided wiring.

    Wire Material
The wire used in the neck and bridge pickup is made from enamel.

    Coil Material
The coil of each pickup is made from ABS plastic, which is hard and durable and can withstand a broad range of temperatures.

I guess that these Gibson SG’s don’t need copper wire at all!

Ugh. So this is what a "sustainable" wood guitar looks like?

      Pass.

No, it's what a maple one looks like.

The satin yellow looks pretty cool.

I cannot believe they took the absolute brightest gibson guitar design, and then built it entirely out of maple.

              Until maple becomes "endangered".

i like the aquamarine, but wonder how bright sounding they will be?
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

Yep - there is your great American company right there. Clearly, they are pumping out new product so fast they can't proof read. OR maybe they are trying to compete with the Zephyr!

I'm sure whoever wrote that is 100% clear on how pickups work.

Guys who put out top notch descriptions of pickups like that would NEVER botch an international import/export deal fraught with legal landmines at every step of the process.

Again - SHEER BRILLIANCE! I agree - how did that idea not get vetoed at the table? I guess we just have no idea how a Great American Company thinks. As I think back, I have seen thousands of posts like "why don't they make a maple SG - it's not bright enough..."

I will say though, bright is in the ear of the beholder. And honestly, think about how an A2P might sound in there....

So, if you get sick of the icepick tone and light it on fire, the pickup may survive!
