I just got done reading a bunch of posts about Steel vs. Brass.
The consensus I came up with is that:
Brass is warmer
Steel is brighter with more harmonics
I recently acquired a Chandler Strat with a flamed maple neck and Fralin pickups!
The tremolo was a cheap piece of crap and the zinc block shattered as soon as I tried to tune it up!
I'm dying to try this guitar out. I've been wanting another Strat for a long time!
I recently installed a John Mann tremolo in my PRS CE-24 and have the old bridge just laying around.
The mounting screw pattern is exactly the same:
2 1/16" width (center of Low E screw to center of High E screw)
7/16" center of screw to center of screw
It is really well built, but has a huge brass block.
I read a few posts that say brass will kill the sustain. Not sure I am willing to believe that. My PRS has sustain for days. I can hit a note, go make a sandwich, drink a beer, and come back to the same ringing note I left it with!
Any thoughts?
The PRS trem is very well made. Only reason I replaced it is because the previous owner had installed Graph-Tech saddles and I wanted the brass ones. Plus, I got the guitar for a great deal and was willing to spend an extra $200 on a new bridge.
