Re: strats w/ rail pickups -- yay or nay?

I think guitarists should use whatever they want to but I've never heard a rails pickup in a Strat that sounded better to me than vintage style single coils from Duncan or Fralin.

Over the years I tried some of Duncan's offerings and also some from Bill Lawrence and Joe Barden.

What the rails design has going for it is hum free operation and more consistent sustain when I bend a note because the string is always over the polepiece with rails pickups.

What the rails design doesn't get is the beautiful tone of a vintage Fender Strat pickup and for me, that's the whole point of playing a Strat.

IMO, the hotter the rails design the worse it sounds (treble loss) and the less it sounds like a Strat pickup.

Take a look at G&L Legacy Specials - those are RAILS and design by Leo Fender!

So they gotta be great! “Tony the tiger!"

I don't care really, but think the original way looks better for some reason. Don't really care.
