  • Anyone seen and/or tried the new Satriani/Peavey amp?

Was curiuos to see if anyone has seen or tried the new Satriani model from Peavey. It seems very nice. I love the XXX - the changes (per Satch's wishes) seemed pretty cool.

I don't think it's in stores for another few weeks.

I've seen the head; it looks nice. Haven't played one yet. I'm not a Peavey guy, so I doubt I will ever try it out.

You can totally hear when he switches to the Peavey on the new album. I've heard it many times (can't tell ya how ... sorry! Jobs will be lost if I leak it), and musically, the CD is just amazing.

I just saw it has 3 pre tubes which is a big plus in my book ( in the MF catalog). I would imagine you can get some very nice vintage tones with it. I am very curious as to whether it is the goods or not. Peavey makes great stuff so I am looking forward to trying it out.

Peavey tube amps are the best kept sercret in music. Very under rated.

I agree with that. I was very impressed with the XXX. If the Satch model is an improvement on that, I'll be very, very impressed.

If it really sounds like a vintage bassman, plus two other channels, it'll be a huge hit.

Better friggin smoke. I have a hard time believing he'd lay down his 30th Ann Marshalls and Bogners for this thing. All about the $$$$$$$ friggin DiMarzio players. LOL

I've read a review from this month's Guitar Player, and it got the Editors Choice! Flawless as they state it. The modern channel has a little less distortion than the XXX and is a little less compressed. Perfect for leads and rhythm playing Satriani says! The other dirty channel is supposed to be a lightly gritty distortion, significantly brighter than the XXX's. Finally, the clean channel is where the rave is really at! They say that it's got TONS of headroom and is chiming. Stated the cleans as one of the strong points. Boys, looks like we hit a winnner.

He mentioned in a Guitar Player interview he still used his old Fender, Marshall, Bogner, Soldano, Cornford, and Wells amps on the album.

The amp is mainly supposed to be a versatile live amp and not his primary studio amp but he did mention using it on the record as well. I think the fact that there's an internal noise gate is really cool.

I must make a local pilgrimage to Sam Ash to try one.

o yea and the Peavy Classic 30 is the best small combo amp I've ever heard.

Thanks for the link! I agree that it is not the end-all recording amp, but it sure seems like a kick-ass and versatile live amp. At that price point, it is sure worth giving it a try.
