Okay, this was my main guitar for a while, back in the day. Then, in a fit of madness, I decided to strip the finish off and never actually got around to finishing the job. It's been lying in a gig bag in this state for over a year now. To be honest, I'd kinda forgot I had it.
It's a Vintage SG copy. It's worth ****-all on the used market in mint condition and obviously a whole hell of a lot less now, so there really isn't any point in selling it. Besides that, it actually sounds pretty damn good when it's up and running. I had a Custom8/'59n pair in it that just killed. Everything I've read about it says that it's a mahogany body and neck with a rosewood board, but God knows what it's actually made from. I wouldn't be at all suprised if it's plywood or something. Regardless, it plays really well and sounds pretty good, so I figured I may as well do something with it.
So, at the minute, I'm thinking of two possibilities...
1) Don't do a damn thing to it except throw a Custom 8 in the bridge. It's tried and true, so I know it'll sound good. It'll look like hell but **** it, so do I.
2) I've rambled on and on here before about how one of my dream guitars is an upside SG/Viper with a Tele bridge and reverse slant Tele bridge pup. Well, I've got an SG here that I'm not using. I may as well give it a go. At least I'll find out if it's worth dropping a lot more money on doing it properly some day. I'd refinish it, and have to take my first stab at routing for pickups, placing a bridge and God knows what else. It'll take me a while (especially since I'll have to wait a few months for the weather to refinish it) but it could be fun and a cool finished product.
So I'm here looking for ideas. The wackier the better, seriously. All I know is that I want to do something a little off the beaten track with it. I'm up for trying pretty much anything. If I **** it up beyond all repair then it's hardly a huge loss. Gimme ideas for pickups, finishes, weird wiring, modern art, whatever.
Hit me with your best shot, SDUGF! Let's get outside the box!
