  • Homemade Trem Stopper.... Redneck Ingenuity Strikes again!!

Well I caught a Dtuna on Amazon for cheap the other day and bought it. Put it on my charvel last night and wondered why it was losing tune when when I slide the DTuna up to E. Well in my failz, I forgot i bought a trem stopper for my So Cal before I installed before the Dtuna. Well I wanna use my Charvie for my gig tomorrow, so I needed a trem stopper now.

So in my redneck attempt, I got a piece of 2x2 angle iron and a 2 inch long 1/4 inch all thread from a Carb breather kit. Got the iron trimmed down to spec and drilled to pilot holes to secure the stop to my guitar, and made it so the screws would be flush. Then I drilled, and tapped the threads for my all thread. Then I installed the homemade Trem stop and works like butter.

Fantastic. There was one similar in design that somebody posted over in the other thread...I like yours, more. It looks more solid.

but will it kill your tone?

Great job. I also love to see ingenuity like that.

What about using a hexhead (allenhead) screw instead of the all thread, then you could easily adjust it with an allen wrench.

There ya go. I actually have a Floyd trem stop in my Focus 2000 that is pretty much like that.

That's really well done and a simple, elegant solution - not redneck at all.

There's the redneck mantra - If its worth doing, its worth overdoing.

I'd say that requires 10 more screws and a large chunk of wood (cut with something not up to the job of course). And some duct tape and twine to hold it all in and for shimming. Believe me, I know redneck.

It's a fairly common practice to screw a piece of hardwood in the same spot you did, but you took it a step further with that nice thumbwheel hardware. That's a pretty good invention.

And, I like your Jaeggermeister rubber mat. I like fun stuff like that.
