Re: So I have 335 GAS.............. so I thought.

Looked at the Bigsby Website. The one I was thinking of was the B3. I assumed that was the proper one for a Casino, but perhaps not.

Why is there an issue with floating Bigsbys if the floating tailpieces work fine?

Bbent...if you dont want to put any holes in your axe's top, then get a bigsby b3 (or the import model b30 if you want to save a couple of bucks) and a towner retrofit kit. No need for a special bridge, but a nice self lubricating nut and some nut sauce make a difference to tuning stability tho.

I did that to my 335 and its come out sounding and working great:

His guitar doesn't have stud inserts. But before you posted that, I was thinking of a similar invention – a tension bar that hangs backward off of the bridge posts.

This is true. And when Paul McCartney wanted to play his newly acquired left handed real '59 Les Paul on his new album a few years ago, his record producer ABed the LP and Paul's old Casino and the Casino recorded better. Every time Paul would get out the Les Paul it'd wind up back in the case and he'd play the Casino instead.

oh right. i only looked at the catalog pic in the OP. Then in that case i guess he needs the b7 - whic needs drilling. But at least the drill hole will be hidden under the trapeze cross piece of he decided to revert to stock. I did that exact thing on a 1966 epiphone casino "Al Caiola" signature model.
The b3 is no good for 330/casinos cos they dont have enough break angle to keep the strings in the saddles properly without the extra bar.
A b6 is no good too, cos of the same problem, but also cos the hinge is too large and extends past the back of the axe.
They are both designed for axed with a larger arch than a 330 and also (in the case of a b6) with a deeper body.

B3 and B6 are for the most part the same, just length and the overall look is the difference.

A floating tailpiece is much higher up than an ABR-1 on studs in the body so there is enough break over angle but a B3 on a 330 more often than not won't have enough break over angle...it'll end up being a rattle/buzz trap and won't want to stay in tune.

Right...B3's and B6's are great for Gretsch guitars and big Gibsons like ES-350's, 175's, etc but on a thinline a B7 is the way to go.

                Just like Gibson does...

*nods* I got a Bigsby (a B7, I think) to replace the missing factory one on my 225*, looked at the screw holes, looked at my guitar's top (and no central beam), and said "Eff that."

Back in the box it went.

BTW, the Washburn 335 copies are also quite good.

*Yet another reason for me to beat the hell out of the previous owner... *sighs and rolls eyes*

The difference with a 225 and a 330/Casino is the floating bridge...the floating bridge on a 225 will have enough break over angle with a B3...a 330/Casino will not.
