  • Stone Guitar Picks?

Anyone have experience with stone guitar picks? I have only heard about them but never tried one..I have never even seen them in stores. At ~$20-30 US each I probably will never buy one either.

If anyone has tried/owns some I would be curious as to how they are.

Here is a web site that has them for sale.

Looks interesting. I would hate to loose one to the pick gnome though.

Someone told me once that they owned an agate pick. Highly polished rock. The Oregon coast has tons of agates. Next time I'm at the beach I'll poke around. If they're available and cheap, I'll hand 'em around.

I use one for my guitar playing. It ads a whole lot of bite. On the high e and b strings it adds this weird almost harmonic sound that barks. If you like playing with extra heavy picks give them a shot.

I have a polished stone from Indonesia.
Fat sounding pick, almost sounds like fingers sometimes.
Makes a huge sound, but I only play with it rarely, I'm afraid to loose that bugged thing
But I like the sound for a few things.

I find stone picks to produce a rather loud "click" when I hit a string. A little too much "attack" in the sound for me. I'd rather hear more of the note with a smoother (warmer) attack.

Just use the round end...I never use the tip of a stone pick.
And pyrexglass is also a good material to use.
