  • NGD - hollow tele

Well, finally I've got my semi-hollow tele build together.

Warmoth ash body, with maple neck/ebony fretboard. Fitted with 2 of Zhangbuckers finest pure handwound vintage output pickups.

Its pretty light too, 6 1/2 pounds

I'll have to call it the Lemony Snickett, because the parts/finishing was definitely a series of unfortunate accidents.

#1 Broke Collarbone just as the body arrived
#2 Warmoth sent wrong pickguard initially, sorted fairly quickly
#3 Sanded through the sanding sealer and into stain in several places. In fixing this, more of the stain came off due to some mineral turps still on the brush I used. Luckily these rather obvious flaws are on the back
#4 Ordered neck from B Hefner, 12 weeks later and no action I checked with them. Based on their response it had been forgotten (although I'm not 100% sure on this assumption), it was shipped less than a week after the email.
#5 The ebony fretboard was very rough and the fret ends hadn't been touched. Luckily some sandpaper and the tech's setup sorted these small issues.
#6 As I was doing the very final polish with a drill pad and Meguiars polish, the rag under the guitar got caught up and sent the guitar crashing over 1m to the ground. I had to take the finish back to bare wood in 2 places (on the front edge), stain and 8 coats of clear plus sanding, rough cut/fine cut/polish again.
#7 Tuners I put on ended up being for a right handed guitar, even though I was positive I'd ordered for a lefty neck.

Luckily it sounds great. The best idea of tone is a nice Gretch. I've been hammering out some Living End on this.

Love that finish, and the thinline guard with zebras --- unique, and really great looking. I think the finish color makes it!

Nothing so sweet as a good lefty NGD! Especially when it's a Tele.

That's ****ing beautiful, dude. Nice job. I really love the finish and the wood grain.

What does that switch between the volume and tone pots do?
          I remember calloused hands and paint-stained jeans, and I remember safe-as-houses self-belief.

Thanks all for the kind comments.

Kam - I've got both pickups wired for series/parallel. The volume knob is a push/pull.
