Has your Electrics made you lazy when it comes to your Acoustic?

Wow, I used to play nothing but Acoustic. My hands were totally conditioned for it.

Then I got into electric a few years back. They have made me lazy.

Today, I slapped a new set of Elixirs (12's) onto my Martin and barring that F chord I found that I'd gotten lazy and really had to put way more effort into holding down the barre than I remembered.

I think electrics have made my left hand a bit weaker than it was.

One more New Year's Resolution.... to play my Acoustic for at least an hour a week. Just to keep my hands familiar with it.

I think that's why a lot of people play Taylors!

but yeah, I have the same problem. I don't play my D-28 anymore.

I tried a lot of Taylors and none of them screamed out, "buy me" like the Martin did.

Not really because i also play acoustic standup bass and if any of u have played one u know ur hands have to be in tip top shape

I have a Spanish with an insane action.....my steelstringer I sold to a buddy, but I'll get a new one.....I love acoustic and would not miss it for the world.
Will get a new one soon I hope, have my eyes on one of the highend K Yairi guitars....wow

I keep the action high on most of my guitars, so the switching between electric's, and acoustic's isn't a big deal to me.

I think that's why a lot of people play Taylors!

I raised the action up on my Taylor 514ce, so that it's the same as my Martin D-16GT.

I know what your saying. It took me a long time to find a Taylor I liked. Most Taylor's are too bright in their tone for me. The cedar topped ones, are the only ones I like.

My Ibanez acoustic has good fret access due to a slightly thinner body and I guess a slightly larger cutaway - I can practise all my electric stuff on it. I only has 21 frets though which is a bit of a bummer coz some of the stuff I play needs 22

I play 11's because otherwise I'd never be able to bend the G at all...

It strengthens your hand and most importantly IMO - you have to learn how to use dynamics well... No "one louder" pedals, or volume pots, you gotta do it all with your hands. I believe it has helped my control a lot.

You also can't cover up your mistakes with gain + reverb

haha, I can't argue with you, Scott ... I've had my two Martins for about 30 years!

I still like looking at the Taylor 714 CE when I get a chance, though .. very warm tone, and seems a little easier to change tunings on

(plus, Taylor's local)

I use 12's on my electrics, so it is a bit harder when I go back to 13's on my accoustic.

i use light strings on my adamas, and dont usually bend strings, so it isnt that big of a deal. i do most of my practicing on it though, so I tend to play a lot.
