Ovations have a number of pros and cons.

Pros:
They all sound similar. For better or worse they are consistent.
They have decent electronics built in. Too many people have tried to put electronics in a good sounding acoustic and failed.
They are tolerant of climate change. You can pick one up at any time and you don't need to set it up again because it rained yesterday.

Cons:
Acoustically they aren't great, but they were meant to be played plugged in and not acoustically.
They lack individuality of a true acoustic guitar.
Too many people think an acoustic is supposed to sound like an ovation.
Too many power ballads were played on them so they all smell like aquanet.

Jim and the good folks at Ovation got into it more than once...Jim was an Ovation endorser but he never recorded with them, at least not that I know of...on album he used mostly various old Martins.
