  • Anyone make a decent small practice amp?

I am looking for something small. I would like it to have CD in and Headphone out. It seems like there are a bunch. But do any sound ok. I usuall practice during lunch at work.

I was thinking of trying the Marshall MG 10.

I like the Vox Pathfinder 15R, except it doesn't have a CD input. It does have a headphone out. The amp actually sounds nice, plus they're on sale at GC for about $139.

                Well, you already ordered...

but for the record, the Tech21 trademark 10's are supposed to be REAL hip little amps. I remember some old clips that Alvin Lee Fan posted on the old board with that amp and his '54 oxblood Hummer LP, those were KILLER, IMO.

I was gonna say roland cube 30, great little amp and its got some balls too. And its got all the things you mentioned like cd in and headphone jack etc.

Comes with effects and delay/reverb, which are all good, and the amp models sound really good for a digital thing, best little amp ive come across...but i havent played any tech21 stuff either but that stuff is a fair bit more expensive than a cube..cubes are nice and cheap.

i play my hughes & kettner triamp up at college

the roland microcube wasn't too bad. i do wish it sounded better, and it isn't as portable as roland claims it to be, but it's a decent low priced amp and i applaud their efforts for trying to emulate so many classic sounds.

If you're looking strickly for a practice/lesson amp, then i highly recommend the peavey rage or blazer ... both have headphone outputs, both have tape/cd inputs, both have a clean channel (with vintage/modern voicing switch),an overdrive channel a shared 3 band eq ... descent gain on the lead channel, good headroom on the clean channel ... pretty good tone 15watts into a 8" speaker ... weighs maybe 10lbs. (4.5kgs.), solid state so they are pretty cheap to acquire ... the difference between the two is that the blazer has a small (read *SMALL*) reverb tank, it's not much, but it's something ... it's worth having ... the rages can be had for under $100 US dollars, and the blazers for not much more ... when I used to sell them I think I sold the rages for like $69 or so, and the blazers for like $95 ... Descent sound, smooth overdrive, good features, and pretty tough. They were a big hit with teachers. I'd try one before deciding on the MG 10.
