I have had new in box that were rusty right out of that same box

these were the super cheap GFS strings

    I payed $12 for a box of 10
and they originally sent me a single pack

i had to debate it over email
and they relented and sent me that box from behind the bins

Most likely. It is rare to find actual deals these days.

        Old strings didn't have coatings

Most sets of strings these days come in sealed packs. What kind of change is going to take place in steel and nickle in a sealed pack? Even after 10 years!? I've got guitars with strings on that have been open to air and humidity for well over 10 years that still play and sound fine.

          "Old Stock"?
          Who cares.
I can understand if we were talking about meat or milk.

Once again the wrong gauge for me I use lights, that E would feel like a telephone pole. But if you play mediums great string at a great deal

I can't get into 80-20s. They just never sound right to me . . . either way too zingy, or deader than six day old roadkill. There's just no happy medium in those things. Every few years I accidentally buy a pack and remind myself of this.

The only time I got 80/20s that were "horrible" were the Ernie Ball Earthwood. I am not picky about acoustic strings because they are for home noodling, not gigging. These strings were so bright that I took them off the guitar and wrote off the cost.

never been a fan of the 80/20s. if that was phosphor bronze, id jump on it. i put 11s on all my electrics and 12s on acoustics these days

I agree the 80/20s sound like the lifeless strings I am swapping out
