  • Floyd Rose Rail Tail

Just wanted to make a post about this tremolo, as I haven’t seen much of it. It’s a really, really good, high quality tremolo, that is capable of doing some intense dives, and coming back almost perfectly I tune despite heavy usage. I actually have it in my Squier Affinity, so YES it will JUST BARELY fit your thin body strats.

I recommend using 4 springs with this in order to get it flush with the body as it’s designed, but if you can you can tighten the claw screws A LOT and use 3 springs. This obviously can change with sting gauges and tuning, I myself am using 11’s and I’m tuned to Eb Standard.

It only costs 25% more than the whole affinity did, new.... and limits you to dive-only, while also providing absolutely no locking whatsoever.

So, for any improvement, you're also gonna have to go get your hands dirty and operate on that headstock to install some NON-drop-in locking tuners. Hopefully you at least have the neck drilled for 10mm tuners already....

And having spent $20-100+ more on the project doing that, you'll never fully be rid of the sneaking suspicion that you coulda just got Chinese locking tuners or a floyd locking nut and stopped there, ESPECIALLY if dive-only suited you and you could just deck the dang thing

....since the wobbly flex-prone affinity neck means that nowhere near "full" stability can be achieved anyway,

Also, the whole point of the intense dive capability is to NOT tighten claw a lot, use 4 springs, or mount 11's....since that added tension is gonna spoil most of your gains from switching to the system. Which, btw, is solely for deep dives, not tuning stability. If anything's begging for 2 springs and 9's, this is the one (this coming from somebody who DOES string 11s on floyds vintage trems)

PS for experimentation/product testing, yeah why not, but as advice to othes looking to upgrade their $40 pawnshop strat.... mmm nah

Could you send a clip of the full range of this tremolo (does not have to be quality) as I have been looking at them?
You will never understand How it feels to live your life With no meaning or control And with nowhere left to go You are amazed that they exist And they burn so bright

FWIW “coming back almost in tune” isn’t good enough.

Let's remember this is an Affinity with a stock nut and tuners.

...with a trem unit that, at $250+, costs somewhere inbetween a mexistrat and cosmetically battered squier japan. Or any number of superstratty or outright divebomb-specialist guitars.

Unless this is just piloting/prototyping before applying a mod to a different guitar, I just don't see the point.

And, on a side note, if you really wanted to splurge serious mod money on an affinity trem, the cheapness of the body makes it a perfect candidate to practice some routing... used OFR/Schaller, FR1000 / FR Special, or better yet Kahler

I apologize for not clarifying AT ALL.

Yes this is in a Squier Affinity, however I have HEAVILY modded this Affinity. Duncan’s (and an EVH Frankenstein pickup), locking tuners, new paint job, new neck job, and everything in between. Everything on this guitar has been changed exepet for the body and neck itself.

Was the mod worth it? To most people probably not. But I personally have fallen in love with it from a playing standpoint as well as a sentimental standpoint.

So will there be a clip demonstrating the full range of this trem? I can't find a single one anywhere. And pictures would be nice too, your axe sounds like it looks pretty cool.
