  • electric violins...

my wife is g.a.s.sing for an electric violin...

yes...everyone in my family is a g.a.s.saholic!!! LOL!!!

anyways, she used to play a little when she was younger and she wishes she would have really learned how to play...i told her it was NEVER too late...(i've only been playing guitar for a couple of years)

soooo...i've found a couple of decent deals...on fenders ($399, comes with a case, bow, & resin)...she wants an electric, but one with a more traditional look...not like the yamahas...

anyways...i was wondering if any of you had any experience with electric violins...and also what amp do you think would work the best for her...she'll be playing at home and in church...

i know she could play through my tech 21 120...but she needs her own amp and probably not something that large...plus we might want to play together sometime...plus it couldn't hurt to have another amp around ya know what i mean...

thanks in advance for all of your help,
    mike

    Re: electric violins...

Wasn´t there a crazy guy calle Mark Wood or so, that shredded on Viuolins AND made them a few years back??

Maybe a search for Wood and Violin or something might help

      Re: electric violins...

I am not sure about violins but I think if you are thinking about getting an amplifier for an electric one you may have to get one of those acoustic amps and not one for an electric guitar. I think AER makes some very small amps - but they are very good. I have a friend who has got the AER Compact 60 and he uses his acoustic and also a mic and it is brilliant.

Anyway so when the wife and you start gigging let us know and also dates/venues - so that we can avoid the noise!!

Has Seymour Duncan ever made pickups for other acoustic instruments?
          Dobros, mandolins, violins?

              i play violin...
and i would recommend some type of vocal speaker...since violin has such a broad range....
pickup? they make special violin pickups that stick on the bridge...

umm i belive fender makes electric violins. the come in either black or white. I used to play violin as a kid and it was OK....but no where as fun as guitar IMO.

                  Re: electric violins...

well...i think she has her mind pretty much set on the fender...so i'm on a search to find one for her to play...

my main question now is the amp...it doesn't appear that the fender is what i would call an acoustic/electric...its doesn't have f-holes, i'm sure it has some acoustic ability, but limited...

so what would be a good amp for her...a fantastic clean would obviously be a must...i'm thinking something in a 1x12 version...

any suggestions or anyone with experience playing an electric violin...???

Hey Hoss, I'd highly suggest a 59 Gibson Electric Violin through either an old Plexi or an Early 80's JCM 800 !!! LOL
