  • In 1972 I sold my 1959 Les Paul to a guy in New York...

Today he contacted me on Facebook and asked if I was the guy who had sold him the guitar 50 years ago!

He had kept all of our correspondance and sent me a photo of the letters I had sent him.

And he sent me pictures of the guitar today. He still has it.

It was a '59 that Gibson had put a new (at the time) neck on and did a beautiful refinish.

For whatever reason, the guy I bought it from had asked to have a Les Paul Custom peghead put on the new neck.

The guy who I sold it to told me Joe Bonnamasa has played it and tried to buy it from him.

    I sold it in 1972 for $750.

Trogly had one video about a custom neck being the replacement on a deluxe or some such

        I like the contrast

So you offer him $500 even for it?

In the 1970's, when Gibson replaced necks on Les Pauls, they replaced with custom necks for some reason. That's why Marc Bolan's Les Paull had a custom neck.

          $750. Ouch.

Just did the inflation calculator, comes out to $4700. If someone posted on here that they got almost 5 grand for a 13 year old Les Paul with a replaced neck, we'd all be laughing at whoever bought it.

So I made out after all! That's a relief.

More generous than that. I told him if he wasn't happy with the deal I'd give him his money back. Full refund.

                      I don''t. It's the guy's pride and joy tho!

That is really bizarre! Viewed from the back, it looks like someone enlarged the peghead. Looks like a maple neck too. Wonder if it's even a real Gibson?

I think the best guitars have great stories. This is a great story.
