  • Seagull and Epiphone acoustics

Which one generally has better higher end acoustic guitars, Seagull or Epiphone? I’m trying to decide between Seagull Guitars Maritime SWS Mahogany and Epiphone DR500Masterbilt.

    Seagull - hands down.

      I'd say Seagull, too.

Seagull. I have an S6+ spruce top cherrywood back and sides. With new strings it sounds like a Martin, with old dead strings it sounds like a Gibson. Either way, it always sounds like a million dollar record.

          Heard good things about Seagull-

Tried a brand new Epiphone ; that I didn't like at all. It was very heavy, not very resonant- and hard to play! :o

Might have been just "that one" guitar though... :/

          I'd say Seagull. .
If somethings important- send a PM. I might be offline for long periods. Rock on!!!

            I have an Epiphone Hummingbird
it and the masterbuiilt series have the shorter scale
            that I like

The master built I looked at before getting my Hummingbird was a very fine instrument
And doesn't compare to the standard Epiphone line

            Seagull is nice too

That pointy shaped headstock looks like a penis to me

Why the hell do people get so hung up about peghead shapes?

Of all the ones that I've played, seagull. You can find a decent epi acoustic, but the seagull guitars are much more consistently nice.

My next acoustic will be a Seagull. But it's not because of the shape per se. It's because it's a straight string pull across the nut. That's important to me.

                    I like straight too
but aesthetically it's just not pleasant
PRS does that with a bit more flourish

I like the Seagull headstock, and it seems to balance with the body really well. I think ergonomically, it works with the straight string pull, which is important to a lot of people on an acoustic.

But not just acoustic. It's the reason I don't like pointy, hockey-stick, and/or Dean headstocks.
