  • Does anyone know Mike Stern’s rig on this?

I’ve always loved this type of Fusion sound. I think it was recorded in 1981. Could it have been a Tube Screamer, CE-1 and Echoplex into a Fender amp?

Also, we don’t talk about how incredible Miles was and how much he moved the musical ball down the field in his career.

    Oh no.....

    Oh Yeah!

You shouldn’t skip, but 5:10 for the solo. And Marcus doing his thing too!

Seems like maybe a Distortion+? Delay could be a DM-2 or Ibanez, Chorus could be Boss or MXR?

Do not know specifically for that album. But he’s been pretty consistent with his rig. He uses

      1) a fairly simple Boss based board, this is a pic I took last time I saw him live. A DS1, a BD waza, (that is more recent) a couple DD3s

      2) Yamaha SPX90, specifically the patch 23 there, for the chorusy sound. I think this is the core of his tone.

I think at least live he now uses the Boss Overtone (the other pedal in the pic) but I think any detuner will do.

      3) this goes into two cleanish amps for stereo. He used to use Yamaha Gs but I’ve seen him with Twins.

      I’m a fan.

Funny anecdote, Miles used to call Mike Stern “Fat Time” back then
