  • New Gibson Explorer day!

I sold an amp and a cabinet to my buddy.....so I had some bread burning a hole in my pocket...
And Today I was randomly looking through Facebook marketplace...like an idiot!

Talked this guy in Scottsdale (1-1/2 hours away) down a bit on his 2019 Explorer in Antique Natural.... he bought it in 2020 brand new. Case candy, setup, and it still had original strings on it.... has one tiny dinger on the face of it. But a safe queen and actually like mint new. Still smells strong of nitro!

I rushed down there, got it, took my youngest son to cheesecake factory and rushed home.

I will order straploks and a black pick guard...since this was an impulse buy I wasn't prepared like usual ha ha.

Anyhow Burstbucker 3 pickups sound pretty thick! I'm not sure if they're tight enough for my normal application but we'll see.

    anyhow.... NGD porn!

It's one piece of wood, no glue joints!

Heck yes. Good Explorers are the bees knees. I'm not jealous, I swear.

How does that Rusto hold up on a pickguard? Never tried that.

No idea, but I'll bet it will knock right off. I'll order a black one tomorrow. I just couldn't stand the white.

I painted my LZZY Hale Epiphone PG with spray paint, and it's held up great for a few years.

These pickups aren't so bad. Maybe I'll leave a stock set of pickups in a guitar for more than 3 days.

Nice! How's the neck on those? Baseball bat? Or 60s slim? Or something else?

Slim taper, it's just about perfect. I'm used to playing explorers, so this feels like home.

Introduced alongside the Gibson Flying V™ in 1958, the Gibson Explorer™ traveled where no man had gone before and past every guitar design that came before it. Over 60 years later, the Gibson Explorer is utilized by artists of all genres, making it one of the true classics of the guitar world. The Antique Natural finish, all mahogany set-neck construction, rosewood fingerboard, and SlimTaper™ neck provide incredible classic looks, sound, and playability. A special set of calibrated Burstbucker 2 (neck) and Burstbucker 3 (bridge) pickups provide that perfect mix of volume, tone, and power.

Nice. BB3 sounds surprisingly tight. Black pickguard definitely looks better.
For a guitar that's so long and asymmetrical, Explorers sure are comfy to play.
Way more ergonomic than a Firebird, IMO.

And you are considering changing pickups why?
                      Just because?
I would leave that alone for at least six months before you even consider changing anything. Except strings and the settings on the volume and tone knobs.
                      Nice score.

I had an Explorer recently that I sold. I had to have a white pickguard with gold knobs though. To me that's what looks the best on those guitars.

Beautiful guitar. Nice to see Lizzy has a sibling now.

Lol Lzzy was the sibling, because I've worn the paint off my goth.
