I have an old MXR Dist III, I like it but man I had the distortion knob dimed and I just was not getting much sustain... almost acting like a tube screamer or boost instead. In front of a Princeton reverb. I haven't played this rig much recently so maybe I am just used to much more gain but i swear, I used to run this thing at 2-3 o'clock and get all I wanted and more. Do these things lose the magic smoke after a while? It's no big thing, I paid $40 for it. It runs off a wall wart, not battery.
Maybe I need a distortion with more gain, at least until I score a mesa mini rectoverb for my practice-at-home amp. I'm not really a fuzz guy, more classic distortion and I don't want to pay a lot for this muffler. What about some kind of RAT or something that can get me close to the thrash/crunch without being obscene and leaving a lil sweetness for leads? Preferably something cheap... like $80-110 ish.
