  • What do you guys think of these???

So I been looking into rack stuff and I came across these from rocktron. I think they might be a pretty cool unit.

I've not read a bad review of anything from Rocktron, particularly their rack gear. It seems they take what everyone else is doing and do it 'one better', as I understand it.

Those sound cool. I'd like to hear what the Plexi one sounds like next to a Marshall.
      Nope...

I've tried. They quickly fall back down.

They need to reissue the Piranha.

I can put in the suggestion, but I know in the immediate future, there are other plans.

The classic one sounds pretty good to me. Would be neat to try that with a proper tube power amp. I applaud them for doing rack stuff (it really is one of the best guitar amp systems I believe), but it better be darned good to take up prime real estate in a rack case and bump out one of the many available rack units that can cop marshall tones.

This has me thinking - why are there no one-space preamp/power amp rack units (unless I'm mistaken)? Like half preamp, half SS power amp - both of which could be used independently if the need arose. It'd make a nice backup amp for rack users.

They should make a 20 watt single space tube power amp like marshall and boogie has, but at a reasonable price.

Out of curiosity, if you've been searching - what else is up-and-coming in rack preamps? I see Engl has their unit, but are there many others going on right now? Maybe that sansamp one? I'm guessing boogie still makes their recording rectifier preamp.

I had an idea about a 4U modular amp head that would house a 2U preamp and a 2U power amp, where you could switch out the preamp for whatever you wanted. (A more universal approach to the Randall/Egnater amps from a few years ago.) As long as the preamps weren't too deep it would really open up a lot of sonic territory.
