A cranked Plexi is a big part of the early EVH sound. One production pickup that gets the EVH vibe is the CC. Others have used the 59 trembucker and other PAF class pickups in their strats and report to have gotten close. The Duncan Distortion will probably be too compressed and bright to get an authentic Van Halen sound.Ain't nothin' but a G thang, baby.

I seriously doubt even Eddie know's what he used at this point. He's told so many versions of the story, outright lied, and everything in between. The most likely scenario is a PAF of some sort from the 60's that he wax potted.
