being a 7 string player, i don't have many options as far as high gain pickups. i've boiled it down to two...so how do the sh6 and x2n compare? i assume the dimarzio is a bit higher in output, but i've never used either one so i'm not sure. anyone have some experience with these pickups?

Re: sh6 vs x2n

I can't speak for any dimarzio pickups but the Duncan Distortion is a great pickup. It probably does have less output than the x2n but the output it does have is awesome. I find it works best with drop tuning. C, B, and lower sounds absolutely awesome esspecially with the tone rolled off a hair. It comes out really clear and chunky with really nice mids. If I was to get a 7 string and Blackouts wouldn't work, I'd tell the guy to throw in a Distortion.

Hope this helps

Re: sh6 vs x2n

I can compare them pretty objectively

I begin with DD (Duncan Distortion)
The DD has allright bottom ,tight but enough mojo in it.It's clear and furious. It bites well and has a strong top end.Nice harmonics with a "feral" kind of quality roar. The string pull and sustain is well balanced. The articulation is good. The clean tone is acceptable.

The X2N is the hihest output in passives...The clean tone sucks if you don't split the coils. In coil split mode ,it's amazing
It rather sounds flat...That means it takes mostly the character of the guitar. The string pull is strong ,so you need to watch out the height of the PU.You can't adjust single polepieces...
It's as agressive as the DD...More bottom and more top it has.But the harmonics sound different.
The articulation is well ,but a tad scretchy.
