  • C-5 or Screamin Demon - mahog strat maple top, maple neck rosewood board

Like a strong balanced and full tone, not too hot, has to cut and handle high gain well with clarity, and have a useable clean tone.

ARGH pickups are driving me nuts

at least i've narrowed it down to these two

The C-5 will be tighter under gain, the Demon will be brighter and looser. Both will work but I prefer the added focus of the C-5.

                    I have a screamin demon......very nice one.
C5 is just a matter of swipe magnets some day
The Demon is very clear and if you like classic rock sounds this one is doing it quite good.

Robert - by tight do you mean more compressed?

Does either pup sound very compressed under gain? I don't want an over compressed tone

I guess that the tighter sound of the C-5 under gain is a partial result of tube compression but it's not to the degree that you are worried about. The C-5 still has a nice open feel, it's just not as loose as an 8-10k pickup will be. It's a great compromise between vintage and modern hot tones.

The Demon is not very compressed under gain, it as Robert say, a loose and open pickup.
But it is closer to PAF style pickups than the C5 is.

                            Thanks Rob 'n Rid

one last question, how do they sound split or parallel?

which would you reccomend (push pull pot for split tones or parallel/series)

                            thanks again
