  • hum problem?

    hi,
i just got duncans pups and installed them.

    sh-1n
    ssl1
    tb-4

    2tone 1vol 5way.

they sound nice and i liked the clean sound by the JB model.
the clean of the '59 sounded bassy.

alright, the problem is that i got hum
on the position 1, 2 and 4 which it should not.

i also get some "electrical "sound when i touch on the metal things like floydrose, screws on the pickguard and on the chrome tone knobs.

    anyone knows?

    Re: hum problem?

i would figure you didnt ground everything properly. you should shield and ground your pickguard with aluminum foil and by running a wire from the foil to the back of the volume pot. If you want to get rid of the sound when you touch the tone knobs, you'd have to ground them too by connecting them in some way to the neg terminal of your input jack. this should solve your problems, just be sure the foil shielding touches the screws. Is your floyd grounded too?

yup that buzz is definatly due to a grounding problem, there was a cable otehr than the 4 mentioned (4 conductor) and you have to ground that as well. Maybe the guys who helped me could repost the pics? Anyways i grounded it and no probs.

        hm...thats sounds a little complicated.
the bridge pup is on the same ground. and its fine... ?

        Neolumi:
yes i grounded that wire too.
i roll all the pup wires that should be grounded, together and then solder it.

i also get more or less hum depending on the tone 1 knob.
        but it still gets hum.
so .. sure that it is not another problem other than grounding problem?
