I've got hex heads in one of my JB's and it tightened up the bottom end and didn't increase the shrillness of the pickup at all. The pickup sounds smoother and beefier now.

This is what I did to the JB of my ESP Horizon. It sounds much better with tighter bottom end without taking out the JB tone. I used the allen screws of a Paf Pro.
