I'm new to pickups. What is the difference between a humbucker and a soapbar

    Re: New to pickups

    Hi Nitrox ...
As a simplification, there are essentially only 2 kinds of pickups in the world:
    single coil and humbucker
Single coil pickups gather sound from one point along the string's length, so they are noted for their highly focused, chimey tone.
Humbuckers gather sound from two points, and are noted for a punchy, higher output tone.
A soapbar, also called a P-90 pickup, is a singlecoil. Single coil pickups are subject to picking up 60 cycle hum or buzz, which is cancelled by having two coils side-by-side, one out of phase with the other -- hence the name HUM bucking.

    Hope this helps!
